Question 1

How do I contact the person who found it?

Accepted Answer

Contacts on a notice are shown in part, to keep spam away. Press “It's mine, send my contacts” on the notice: we pass your phone and email to the finder by email and SMS, and they get back to you. The same works the other way round on a lost notice.

Question 2

How can I be sure I'm returning it to the real owner?

Accepted Answer

Don't show every detail in your notice. Ask the owner to describe what the photo doesn't show: what's in the wallet, which keyring is on the keys, what's on the phone's lock screen. Meet somewhere busy.

Question 3

I found someone's documents. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

Post a notice, but don't photograph pages with personal data or write the document number: the type of document and, if needed, the owner's name are enough. If the owner doesn't come forward, you can hand the documents to the police.

Question 4

Can I keep what I found, or ask for a reward?

Accepted Answer

The Civil Code of Ukraine requires a finder to tell the owner, or the police or local council if the owner is unknown (art. 337). The finder is entitled to ask the owner for a reward of up to 20% of the item's value (art. 339).

Question 5

How do I find my thing in the list faster?

Accepted Answer

Pick the category and the dates when you lost it: dates narrow the list the most. On the found side, turn on “Near me” to see things found within 10 km of you. Search in plain words: it looks through titles and descriptions.
